JD Henderson began his career with Primedia Unlimited 13 years ago with X/Procure Software SA as Sales and Marketing Director. JD has a passion for developing people and business and his successful track record resulted in him being promoted to Managing Director of this business unit in 2009.
During his tenure as Managing Director, the business was expanded by 2 new start-ups in XP Digital and XP Liquor. In January 2016 JD took over the Management of Primedia Instore in conjunction with his role in the X/Procure Cluster. After delivering successful results for the group for both the X/Procure Cluster and Primedia Instore, JD was promoted to the Chief Executive Officer of Primedia Unlimited in January 2018.
Grant Willemse took up the position of Chief Operating Officer (COO) at Primedia Unlimited at the beginning of May 2007. Willemse has an undeniable creative energy and business acumen. As the winner of a Cannes Media Lion and the 2003 AMASA Roger Garlick Award for his Osram Light Bulbs ‘Studio Lights’ campaign, Willemse has never been short of innovative ideas and has always played an invaluable role for the company he keeps.
Chairperson of the Financial Directors Forum of the ACA (Association for Communication and Advertising) and a member of the ACA Operations Committee, Willemse is exceptionally well-recognised by his peers in the industry and has been a mentor and friend to many.
Chris joined Primedia in 2008 as Group Finance Manager and was appointed Chief Financial Officer in June 2011. Prior to that, he had served as Financial Director of a division of Servest (Pty) Ltd.
He worked within KPMG’s Hospitality and Leisure business unit for three years and prior to that had spent two years with Credit Suisse in London. Chris qualified as a Chartered Accountant (SA) on completion of his articles at KPMG in 2002 and he holds a Bachelor of Commerce and a Bachelor of Accounting degree, both from the University of Witwatersrand.
A stockbroker by training, Phumzile is the executive chairman and co-founder of Afropulse Group Proprietary Limited, an investment and corporate advisory group. She is the non-executive chairman of the unlisted Mineworkers Investment Company Proprietary Limited, and Primedia Holdings.
Phumzile also serves as an independent non-executive director on some companies listed on the JSE, including Massmart Holdings Limited (Deputy Chairman and Lead Independent), Metrofile Limited (Lead Independent) amongst others. Phumzile was appointed on 16 April 2018 by His Excellency Cyril Ramaphosa, the President of the Republic of South Africa as one of four Special Investment Envoys tasked with raising USD100 billion over a five-year period.
Retha Le Roux
Retha has been appointed as the Group Financial Manager from January 2012. Her career spans 20 years across various industries, the latest was as Head of Finance for the Kumnandi Food Company, the largest KFC Franchise holder in South Africa.
Retha’s qualifications include a BCom Accounting degree (Rau), BCompt Honours degree (Unisa) and a Masters of Business Leadership (Unisa SBL).
She has proven all-round skills in senior Financial roles and her management skills together with strategic planning and execution abilities rank very highly.
